Sketchbooks are hugely important to me. They are my playground, my laboratory, my quote collections, my diary and companions. I have always kept them and I did have a big back library of them but they were unfortunately destroyed in a storage fire. Luckily I am pretty prolific and have filled (to busting!) seven in the last year. I find they are incredibly evocative memory keepers, I can remember not only where I was when I created a page, but also how I felt when I was doing it. I very rarely start a page with a definite intention, more likely I will splodge paint in whatever colour appeals to me. Sometimes it will evolve into something 'proper'; an artwork fit for public perusal and sometimes not. The great thing is, it really doesn't matter! As they evolve they take on distinct personalities reflecting whatever my main passion and preoccupation was at that time.
Here is a look inside my February/March book with music especially written for it by the lovely Matt Cowe.
A slideshow with some selected pages for your delectation, the music is by Ayub Ogada.
